Ovens are quite useful and can be used to bake, roast, and heat a variety of food items. However, like a kitchen appliance that is used often, they have the ability to get dirty fast. If you are someone who has no idea about how to clean your oven then read on to find about it.

It might not sound true, but the fact is that there is a self-cleaning feature in many modern ovens these days. Using this feature is extremely easy and is best if you want to stay away from chemicals. Here, all you have to do is heat the oven to about 880 degrees Fahrenheit. Soon, the food crumbs inside the oven will start burning and will leave some ash behind them. Afterward, you can wipe out this ash easily with a damp cloth. However, one drawback of this kind of cleaning is that you cannot use the oven for 3-5 hours. Moreover, this method produces a lot of heat, so it is not ideal to use this method in the warmer months.

If your oven has porcelain racks then you can leave them in your oven when using the self-clean cycle. You are really lucky if your oven has the steam-clean option as it will help you to get rid of the food sticking in the oven.

If you do not have a self-cleaning oven or want to yourself clean the oven then follow the tip given below –

  1. When it comes to cleaning the metal racks of the oven, it is best to remove them and soak them in boiling water with a little dishwasher detergent. After a couple of hours, you should use a brush to scrub these racks. Afterwards, you must rinse them and keep them to dry. To clean the metal racks you can also make a mix of baking soda and lime juice, which you can rub on the racks and later rinse off.
  2. Lemon is extremely effective when it comes to getting rid of the bad, burnt odour. Place a baking dish filled with water into the oven. Now, squeeze two medium-sized lemons into this dish and put the lemons also in the water. Now, heat the oven till the water starts to boil. Keep the door of the oven closed for about an hour so that the oven gets filled with the steam. This will soften the grease on the oven surface, which you can later wipe with a cloth. This will also make your oven smelling good.
  1. When cleaning knows of the oven, you should never spray a cleaner on them as the cleaner could get behind the knobs and short out the control panel. Instead, you should take a damp microfiber cloth and use it to wipe on and around the knobs. You can even slightly damp the in soap or a disposable wipe.
  2. If some melted cheese spills in your oven, sprinkle some salt while it is still liquid. Afterwards, as the oven cools down, you can wipe off the cheese easily. The salt is useful even when you want to get rid of the odours. A pinch of cinnamon can ensure that your oven is always smelling nice.
  3. When it comes to cleaning the door glass of your oven, you must make a thick paste by mixing baking soda and water. Spread this paste liberally on the glass and let it sit for 20 or more minutes. After, this uses a microfiber cloth to wipe up the paste, followed by a rinse with clean water. Let it dry and you will notice that the glass has become sparkly clean. Remember to use a gentle approach while cleaning the glass door as the glass is more vulnerable to scratches.
  4. Use a mix of 1 cup apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of sugar if you are looking to remove the darkened, dried-up smear. Spread it evenly on the oven and let it stay for an hour. Afterwards, you can slightly scrub your oven to get rid of all the grime.

If all the above given tips are too much for you and you are not confident that you can clean the oven yourself then it is better that you take the help of a cleaning agency. These agencies provide various services like domestic cleaning, commercial cleaning, oven cleaning, etc. The professional cleaners from these cleaners will come to you with all their equipment and make your oven look like new in no time, while you just sit back and relax.
